1. Can I reserve a specific make/model of car?

We will note your preference when you reserve a car. It is impossible for us to guarantee that the person who had the Holden Commodore before you, will return it at precisely the right time for you to rent it. If the make/model is available at the time of rental you will receive it, otherwise you will receive a car similar in size and within the same car group classification.

2. What documents are required to rent a car (license, ID, etc.)?

You will need a valid driver's license. Avis will accept Diners Club, American Express, Mastercard or Visa. You will need to carry this charge card with you unless you are a Preferred Renter. When renting out of your home country, some locations may require a renter to have an International Drivers Permit, in addition to their local license. However, an International Driver's Permit by itself is not acceptable.

3. If a car is rented in my name, can my colleague drive it?

At most Avis locations, your colleague may drive the car, as long as they are at least 21 years of age, have your permission and a valid driver's license. Your colleague will need to appear at the time of rental, present a valid driver's license and complete and sign an additional driver form.

4. Why is there sometimes a drop-off charge for one way rentals?

Each rental station owns their cars. When a car is left in another city, the owning station needs to get the car returned back to them, either by holding that car idle while waiting for a rental which will return it to its origination point, hiring someone to drive the car back or by having the car shipped back to them. In all cases there is added expense to the rental car company for such rentals.

5. How do I make special requests such as delivery?

Special requests can be made at the time of reservation direct with Avis on 136 333.

6. What do I do if the car has a flat tyre, or if I lock my keys in the vehicle?

We provide an emergency road service number located on the rental document jacket. Roadside assistance is a 24 hour service - call 1800 063 973.

7. How old do I have to be to rent a car?

At all Avis locations the minimum age to rent is 21. In certain circumstances or at certain locations, the minimum age may be 18 or 21, please enquire when you make the reservation.

8. Is the insurance coverage offered by Avis the same all over the world?

Different countries have different laws and practices regarding insurance. Consequently, the coverage that Avis provides varies by location. Check at the time of reservation or rental to see what optional coverages may be available. Many countries also offer inclusive rates which include coverages in that country.

9. How do I arrange to extend my rental?

Please call the rental location directly to extend your rental. The location's phone number will be on the rental agreement.

10. In which cities does a road toll apply and how do I make arrangements to use these through Avis?

Tolls apply to some roads in Sydney and Melbourne and the additional daily cost can be charged to your Avis Rental Agreement. Please advise Avis you wish to have the tolls applied to your rental as failure to do so and subsequent use of these freeways, will result in an administration fee being charged.
